Elders Home Fees in Sri Lanka — Honest Pricing, No Surprises
What does quality elder care actually cost? We lay out every number, every inclusion, and every potential extra so you can plan with confidence.
The first question most families ask us is simple: what will this cost? It is a fair question, and you deserve a straight answer. The elders home fees in Sri Lanka vary widely depending on where you look, what level of care your parent needs, and what is actually included in that monthly number. Some facilities quote a low base price and then stack on extras. We take a different approach.
At Civic Retirement Resort, we have been running elders homes in Sri Lanka since 2007 with two locations in Colombo — Civic Retirement Resort, Kotte and Civic Lake View, Ratmalana. Our pricing is built around one principle: you should know exactly what you are paying for before you commit. No guessing, no mid-month surprises.
What Drives the Cost of Elders Home Fees in Sri Lanka
Three factors determine what you will pay at any reputable facility. Understanding them helps you compare options fairly:
- Room type. A private air-conditioned suite with an en-suite bathroom costs more than a shared room. At Civic, all rooms include orthopaedic bedding, wheelchair-friendly bathrooms, and emergency call bells — regardless of which tier you choose.
- Care level. This is the biggest variable. An active senior who needs meals, accommodation, and light supervision costs significantly less than a resident requiring 24/7 nursing, medication management, and specialised dementia support. The more hands-on care involved, the higher the fee.
- Included services. This is where comparison shopping gets tricky. Some homes quote a base price that covers only the room, then charge separately for meals, laundry, or even air-conditioning. At Civic, meals, utilities, housekeeping, Wi-Fi, laundry, and basic medical monitoring are all included in the monthly fee.
What Your Monthly Fee Covers at Civic
We publish our inclusions clearly because we think families should not have to guess what they are getting. Here is what comes standard with every resident’s monthly fee:
- Accommodation: Private or shared room with orthopaedic bedding, en-suite bathroom, and emergency call bell.
- Meals: Three chef-prepared meals daily plus morning and afternoon tea, with custom diets for diabetic, renal, and low-sodium needs.
- Medical care: On-call doctor visits, regular health check-ups, vital signs monitoring, and ambulance transfers to Colombo hospitals.
- 24/7 nursing: Qualified nurses on duty around the clock at both Civic Retirement Resort, Kotte and Ratmalana.
- Housekeeping and laundry: Daily room cleaning and professional laundry service.
- Utilities and amenities: Electricity, water, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, swimming pool, jacuzzi, and fitness area access.
- Social and spiritual life: Religious observances, birthday celebrations, gardening club, and cultural festivals.
What is NOT Included — Things to Ask About
We would rather be upfront about this than have you discover it later. The following are costs that most elder care facilities in Sri Lanka bill separately. At Civic, we tell families about these during the initial consultation:
- Diapers and personal supplies — these depend on individual needs and are billed as used. Ask how your chosen facility handles this.
- Outside medical bills — hospital admissions, specialist consultations, and prescription medicines are billed directly by the hospitals and clinics, not by the elders home.
- Physiotherapy and additional therapy — while basic guided exercises are part of daily activities, intensive physiotherapy sessions may carry a separate charge.
- One-time admission or admin fee — some facilities charge a registration fee on top of the monthly rate. We will confirm this clearly during your consultation.
Paying From Overseas
If your parent is in Sri Lanka but you are living abroad, the logistics of payment matter. We work with families across the UK, Australia, the US, Canada, the Middle East, and Europe, and we have made the financial side as painless as possible:
- International bank transfers accepted in major currencies.
- Flexible billing cycles — monthly, quarterly, or annual, depending on what works for your family.
- WhatsApp video updates so you know your parent is well, not just paying a bill into the unknown.
- All-inclusive management of medications, doctor appointments, and hospital visits handled on your behalf.
Frequently Asked Questions About Fees
Are elders home fees in Sri Lanka paid monthly or annually?
Most private facilities, including Civic, offer flexible monthly billing. Some offer a discounted rate if you pay three, six, or twelve months in advance. Ask about this during your consultation — it can meaningfully reduce the overall cost for families who can plan ahead.
Do the fees include medical care and hospital visits?
At Civic, on-site doctor visits, health check-ups, and vital signs monitoring are included in the monthly fee. Costs for external hospital admissions, specialist consultations, and prescription medicines are billed separately by the hospitals themselves. We coordinate all of this and keep you informed.
Is there a more affordable option for independent seniors?
Yes. Our independent living tier is the most affordable because it requires fewer nursing hours. It still includes three meals a day, housekeeping, security, utilities, and full access to the resort’s amenities — a good fit for active seniors who want a social community without managing a household.
How do I get an exact quote for my parent?
Contact us for a free, no-obligation assessment. We discuss your loved one’s health needs, mobility, room preference, and any specific requirements, then provide a transparent, all-inclusive quotation in writing. There is no pressure and no commitment.
Are there hidden charges I should watch out for?
At Civic, no. Our monthly fee clearly states what is included and what is billed separately. When comparing homes, always ask for a written list of included services and any add-on charges. If a facility cannot provide that in writing, think carefully about what they might be leaving out.
